How to Spot a Fake Hoka
Worth knowing regardless of where you shop.
Check the weight. Real Hoka shoes are startlingly light for their size, and that contrast between a huge midsole and almost no heft is the hardest thing to fake. A counterfeit feels dense in the hand.
Check the midsole sidewall. Genuine foam has a consistent, fine cell structure with clean moulding lines. Fakes show blotchy texture and uneven seams where the foam meets the upper.
Check the label inside the tongue. It should carry a style code, sizing in US, UK, EU and CM, and a country of manufacture, printed sharply. Hoka production runs out of Vietnam, China, and Cambodia, so any of those is normal.
Choosing Your Hoka Model
The range confuses people because the models look similar and are built for very different things.
Clifton
The daily driver, and the right starting point if you are new to the brand. Light, well cushioned without being extreme, neutral. Good for daily runs, long walks, and standing all day.
Bondi
Maximum cushioning in the lineup. The thickest stack, the softest ride. This is the one nurses, doctors, teachers, and anyone else on their feet through a twelve hour shift keep coming back to. If impact protection matters more to you than speed, this is your shoe.
Arahi
Built for overpronation, where your foot rolls inward as you land. It uses a firmer foam wedge on the inner side to guide your stride rather than a rigid plastic post, so you get support without the shoe feeling like a brace. Look at your current shoes: if the inner edge of the sole is more worn than the outer, this is worth considering.
Mach
Lighter and firmer than the Clifton, with more snap. Made for tempo runs and faster paces where full cushioning feels sluggish.
Speedgoat
The trail model. Aggressive lugged outsole for grip on loose ground, a reinforced upper, and the cushioning that makes long distances on rough terrain survivable.

Hoka Sizing: Read This Before You Order
Hoka running shoes generally run true to length but narrower through the toe box than most American brands, particularly in the Clifton and Mach. If you have a wide foot, size up half or ask us for the wide fitting versions.
We list US, UK, EU, and CM on every listing. The CM figure is the reliable one. Measure your foot heel to longest toe while standing, in the evening when your feet are at their largest, add roughly half a centimetre of room, and order to that number. It beats guessing from your last pair.
What Hoka Actually Is
The brand launched in France in 2009 as Hoka One One, founded by two trail runners who wanted more cushioning on brutal mountain descents. Deckers Brands acquired it in 2013 and design moved to the United States. In 2021 the name was shortened to simply Hoka, though plenty of people still search the original Hoka One One spelling.
The oversized midsole was considered ridiculous when it launched. It is now the dominant idea in running footwear, and the reason Hoka moved from a niche ultra-running brand into hospital corridors, classrooms, and everyday wardrobes.
